Obituary

Wendell McCaleb , 86, of Greenwood, MS died on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Greenwood on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Reed McCaleb officiating, assisted by Rev. Collin Montgomery.  Burial will be in Odd Fellows East Cemetery.

Wendell Eugene McCaleb was born April 18, 1936 in Indianola, MS to Addie and David McCaleb. He was one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Wynne McCaleb.

Mr. McCaleb was a career businessman in Greenwood, owning and managing McCaleb Furniture for over 40 years. He loved traveling, his faithful dogs, and supporting local businesses, and most especially eating at the many wonderful restaurants in Greenwood. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

One thing that could be said about Wendell is that he loved life. He soaked up every aspect of life with his usual gusto. He also loved the Lord which gives us all great peace.

He is survived by his children, Pam McCaleb White (Neel White) of Austin, Texas, and Roy McCaleb (Janice McCaleb) of Greenwood, MS; brother, Jimmy McCaleb, Itta Bena, MS; and he is beloved by three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Neel White III, Neel White, Pittman Edwards, Mike McCaleb, Bobby McCaleb, and John McCaleb.
