Verneta "Nita" Jones Morrison passed away, Monday, September 11, 2023, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital at the age of 94.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, J.T. Morrison; parents, Lamar Jones and Bessie Carey Jones; sisters, Dianne Woods, and Bettie Dearen; brothers, Kenneth Jones, and Dan Jones; and her great grandson, Allen Reed Anthony II.

Mrs. Morrison was the oldest living member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood, where she taught 4 and 5 year old children's Sunday school for more than 30 years.

To many of her friends, she was known as the candy lady as she went around distributing her candy each Christmas.  She also loved baking banana nut bread for others.

She will be sorely missed by her sister, Katie Jones; her beloved children, Judd and Sidney (Belinda); four grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth (Allen Reed), Jonathan (Julia), and Patrick; and two great grandchildren, Sage and Jacob.

She loved flowers, but children more, so in lieu of flowers please consider donations to The Baptist Children's Village or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in her memory.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9-11 a.m. at Carrollton Baptist Church, 113 Washington St., Carrollton, MS, with a graveside service immediately following in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, MS. Brother Ed McDaniel will officiate.

The pallbearers will be Bobby Knox, Allen Reed Anthony, Eddie McCaleb, and grandsons, Benjamin Morrison, Jonathan Morrison, Patrick Morrison, as well as great grandsons, Sage Runde-Morrison and Jacob Morrison.
