Travis Wayne Townsend, 83, of Ruleville, MS, died Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Walter B. Crook Nursing Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Ruleville with visitation 1 p.m. until service time. Rev Greg Chamblee will officiate with burial in Drew Cemetery.

Mr. Townsend was born May 29, 1940 in Attala County, MS, to Horace Greely Townsend and Hattie Belle Townsend. He was a member of the Church of Faith. He retired from Ruleville Manufacturing, enjoyed woodworking, and building bird houses. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Townsend, sister, Norma Jean Burchfield, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Vernell Huffman Townsend of Ruleville, MS; daughter, Sandra Vines and husband Robert of Merigold, MS; son, David Wayne Townsend of Merigold, MS; step daughter, Nell Barnett of Drew, MS; step-sons, Preston Bowling and wife Carol of Greenville, MS, and Jimmy Bowling and wife Brenda of Scobey, MS; brother, Jimmy Townsend of Drew, MS; sisters, Dorothy Leach of Indianola, MS, Helen  Kunefke and husband Wade of Sour Lake, TX, and Linda Weeks of Minter City, MS; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Williams & Lord Funeral Home of Ruleville is in charge of arrangements.
