Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Burden , 80, of Greenwood, MS, passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday, July 18, 2020. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, MS. Rev. Bernard Wiggins will officiate.

She was born January 28, 1940 in Sunflower, MS, to Lonzo Refus Deaton and Martha Jane Kennedy Deaton. She was raised in Boogerden, MS, and lived in Minter City, MS, until moving to Greenwood as a teenager. She was a lifelong member of Walton Chapel Church of God in Minter City, and she attended Abundant Life Church of God.

She held various positions in her career, her longest as a pharmacy technician at Economy Drugs for 30 years. She was greeted in Heaven by her oldest son, Brad Burden.

She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Henry H. Burden of Greenwood, MS; son, Mike Burden of Greenwood, MS; daughter, Candi Lucas (Charles) of Coila, MS; and the brightest spot in her life, her only grandchild, Ian Conner Mills. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, Hal Wayne Deaton (Alice) of Gore Springs, MS; sister, Ina Jane Gordon of Bay St. Louis, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions to be made in Peggy's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Leflore County Humane Society. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
