Ouida Armstrong Yates, 81 (wē-dă), of Carrollton, MS, passed away at her residence on Monday, October 21, 2019. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had been under hospice care for the past three months. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
She will be lovingly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, B.J. Yates Peacock and Andy Peacock; grandchild, Colton "Jayce" Yates; 2 sisters, Juanita Bailey (M.C.) and Nancy Ainsworth; three nieces, Cheryl Colyer, Marian Clayton (Bryant) and Lesley Clark (Wayne); three nephews, Robert Roy Armstrong Jr. (Pam), Johnny Bailey (Brenda) and Bobby Ainsworth; and her special friend, Harvey B. Caldwell III. Also great-nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Roy and Francis Gertrude Armstrong; brother, Robert Roy Armstrong; brother-in-law, Robert "Peewee" Ainsworth; former husband, Billy Yate; and her grandchild's dad, Danny Lee Skelton.
Ouida loved the Lord and attended the Church of Christ as long as she was able. She was a kind and generous lady and she was loved very much. Her family and many friends will always cherish her memory.
Ouida graduated from J.Z. George High School with the class of 1956 and continued her education at Draughon's Business College and The University of Mississippi. She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, an insurance clerk for Dr. Lucas, and then an accountant for the MS Department of Corrections; first at the Restitution Center in Greenwood, and then at the Mississippi State Penitentiary until she retired.
