Obituary

Murray Dixon McMahon, 85 years, passed away on December 17, 2015 In Mt. Dora, Florida from heart failure.
Murray was born August 3, 1930 and educated in Greenwood, MS. While in high school he worked for Lawrence Printing Co and then joined the Air Force and spent time in Korea. Murray was discharged and then attended Mississippi State University. His electrical engineering degree was invaluable and he used these skills while working for Westinghouse Electric Company. Winning many awards for innovation, he traveled the U.S. and overseas applying his technical skills to the needs of customers. After retirement he and his wife moved to Florida then traveled by motor home seeing the country.
Mr. McMahon is preceded in death by two months, Lisa Rose McMahon, his daughter. Her home was in Pittsburgh, PA with her husband. She was an avid reader, enjoyed all music, and loved following the local sports teams. Her personality led to forming a large group of friends where she entertained them with retelling stories she had just read charming them with her wit.
Mr. McMahon was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Henry McMahon II. Thomas Henry was named after his paternal grandfather. His education led him to earn a wildlife management degree then moving to Seattle Washington where rescuing wolves and returning them to their natural habitat was his goal. He dedicated his spare time to Habitat for Humanity and also helped with a school reading program. He received awards for his writing and extemporary speeches follow his dad in being the best in his field.
Mr. McMahon is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn M. Mitchell McMahon of Mt. Dora, Florida. Mrs. McMahon as a wife and a mother left alone says that she is proud to say that she lived the best of her life with all three of them.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11:00am at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Carrollton Avenue in Greenwood. Rev. Dennis McKay will officiate. Williams and Lord Funeral Home is in charge.
