Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Mulvihill (Capelle, Lackey, Inman.)

Mary completed her journey on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at her home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi with beloved family by her side.

Mary was born to Mike and Louise Mulvihill in a farm house on Hang Hill, in Carroll County, Mississippi on April 6, 1940. She attended Greenwood High School and later Mississippi Delta Community College. In 1957 she married Jack Capelle of New Orleans and they had a daughter Teri, and two sons, Michael and John Robert III (Jack). In 1976 she married Gordon Lackey of Greenwood and they raised one son, Beau. In 2013 she married her childhood friend Marvin Inman.

Since her youth she was known for having a kind and sympathetic heart for all but also fierce loyalty to friends and family. Until her last days she loved to dance, especially to 1950's rock and roll. Mary's life work and devotion were her children. She cared for her son Jack for 44 years until his death in 2012. In 2019 she moved to Hattiesburg to live with her son Beau and beloved daughter-in-law Jennifer and their children. During this time she found much joy in helping to welcome her sixth grandchild into the world.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Louise Mulvihill; brothers, Michael and Louis Glenn Mulvihill; two sons, John Michael and John Robert Capelle III; husband, Gordon Mims Lackey; great grandson, Ian Michael Overton; and many other friends and loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Lay of Trenton, GA; her son, Gordon Lackey Jr. of Hattiesburg; her sister, Joan Juul of Covington LA; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews, five great nephews, four great nieces and two great great nephews.
