Services for Mary Lee Hood will be held Sunday, August 6, 2017 3:00 PM at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery in Paynes, MS.
Mrs. Hood, age 74, died on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Grenada Living Center.
She was born on April 5, 1943 in Tchula, MS, to the late Winfred and Inez Prestage. Upon the adoption by her grandparents, Homer K. Ratliff and Ora Lee Porter Moore Ratliff, she moved to Millington, TN, where she finished high school. When she returned to Mississippi, she became a member of the Salvation Army in Greenwood, and reached the rank of Sergeant and helped with the Sunday school program. She was a big fan of Jimmy Swaggart. Mrs. Hood enjoyed cooking, tending to her garden, travelling, her pet bird, Chester, and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; daughter, Julia Lee Hood; two brothers, William Ratliff and Walter Ratliff; one sister, Margaret Ables Powers; grandchild, Conner Jacob Everett Hood; and daughter in law, Anita Hood.
She is survived by her sons, Roy Everett Hood, Jr. (Vanessa) of Holcomb, MS, and Charles Manning Hood of Holcomb, MS; daughter, Pamela Sue Hood Bramlett of Holcomb, MS; brothers, Harold Ables of Gore Springs, MS, Howard Ables of Holcomb, MS, and Charles Ables of Union, MS; sisters, Rita Ann Prestage Grofer of La Porte, TX, Margie Ables Williams of Union, MS, and Jane Ables Turnage of Carrollton, MS; stepmother, Bernice Weeks Prestage; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Pallbearers will be Charles Hood, Roy Hood, Chris Ratliff, James Ratliff, Sam Hobson, and Chip Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Ables, Howard Ables, Charles Ables, JR Lesley, and Jeremy Wolfe.
Williams and Lord is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. An online guestbook can be signed at www.williamsandlord.com .
