Martha Louise Poole McMinn, passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood with visitation 1 p.m. until service time at the church on Monday March 16, 2026, with Dr. Wayne Kimbrough officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Martha was born on March 16, 1930, in Minter City, MS. She worked at the box factory in Greenwood building ammunition boxes during World War II. In 1952, she married Bilbo McMinn, a well-known carpenter and farmer in the area. For many years, she worked on the farm with her husband as well as raising five children. She also was a foster parent from 1976 until 1985.
Martha was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She loved her church and was involved in many church activities. Over the years, she taught cake decorating at the J.C. Penney store downtown and made wedding cakes, as well as making alterations and quilts for many in Greenwood and the surrounding area.
She was an active member and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, and was an active member of the Delta Museum for which she also volunteered. She worked as Recreation Director at Crystal Health Nursing Home and also did private sitting for families with loved ones that needed her help.
She owned The Depot for many years and sold snow cones and cotton candy at many events around the city. She ran for Justice Court Judge. Many folks will probably remember being babysat, in their youth by her and all the adventures she took with them. She always had a huge garden from which she shared fresh vegetables and fruit with many friends and those in need. She also volunteered at the Community Food Pantry from 2007 until her death.
She was predeceased by her parents, James Pinkney and Eura Velma Poole, and her brothers and sisters, and her son, Allen Wayne McMinn. She is survived by her two sons, David Frank McMinn and Billy James McMinn; two daughters, Velma Ann Robertson, and Martha Estelle Eubanks; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she truly loved and cherished.
Martha will be remembered as a hardworking, kind, and compassionate friend to many. She always saw the glass as half full and never half empty. She seemed to never meet a stranger and always found something good in everyone whether they deserved it or not. She always spread love and friendship everywhere she went and did a lot of volunteer work. She was always giving and willing to help those in need. Everyone who was blessed to have met her called her a friend can rest in the fact that she is rejoicing at the right hand of our beloved Lord basking in the peace that comes with his honor. She is in the presence of all the ones she loved that have gone before her, and is waiting with open arms for those of us who must wait to see her again. She will not be forgotten.
Pallbearers will be Landon McMinn, Logan McMinn, Bo McMinn, Chris Shaw, Roy Smith, and Jessie Jose. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Dyer and Dr. Kenneth Hines.
In lieu of flowers, Ms. Martha had requested before her passing that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Greenwood, MS or to the Community Food Pantry, PO Box 372, Greenwood MS 38930.
