John Wilton "Buster" Skelton, Jr., born May 5th, 1935 in Carrollton, Mississippi, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 in Oxford, Mississippi. Born to John Wilton Skelton, Sr and Maude Smith Skelton, Buster grew up in Carrollton with 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Vernon Skelton, Earl Skelton, Lois Daves, and Betty Jo Brown. He attended Valley High School and played on the basketball team. He met his high school sweetheart, Sarah Elizabeth Dickerson Skelton, married, and moved to Leland where they raised their four children, Mike, Sissy, Roger, and Andi.  Buster is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Skelton, and son, Roger Skelton. He is survived by his children: Mike Skelton (Karen) of Greenville, MS, Marilyn "Sissy" Skelton of Tupelo, MS, and Andi Epes (Pierce) of Water Valley, MS; 7 grandchildren Michelle Smith, Brett Skelton, Tyler Epes, Shade Shaffer, Sydney Epes, Nicole Schuler, and Jacob Skelton; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Buster worked as a supervisor at a Moscow Screw Company in Greenville, Mississippi, until he retired with his wife to Carrollton, Mississippi. Buster's hobbies included gardening, raising cattle, going to sales, and hunting. Buster loved hunting weekends with his sons and eventually his grandchildren; many of his grandchildren shot their first deer under his watchful and supportive eye. Buster loved watching old Westerns after spending a long day in his garden and tending his cattle. Later in life, nothing made Buster happier than spending time with his grandchildren and making his great-grandchildren laugh. He loved telling stories about Teoc and his friends and family growing up.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20th with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Carrollton, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Moore's Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Lanny Haley officiating. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Brett Skelton, Jacob Skelton, Vernon Skelton, Todd Smith, Grant Shaffer, and Matt Schuler.
