John Winford Smith, 66, of Carrollton, MS, died Monday, December 25, 2023 at his residence. Graveside services will be12 p.m. Wednesday at Free Will Cemetery in Stewart, MS, with visitation 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Davis will officiate.

John was born September 6, 1957 to the late Garnet and Annette Smith. He was a general contractor for over twenty years serving Leflore and Carroll Counties. He lived out his retirement in Teoc, MS, with his wife of twenty-eight years, Wanda Williams Smith. John enjoyed fishing with his son B.J., daughter Tina, and grandkids Cody, Hunter, Airrin, and Brent. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids around the fire pit and card table in "the shop." His favorite times were spent with his grandkids, Cody, Airrin, Hunter, Brent, Carter, and Britney in Pigeon Forge, TN, on family vacations every year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnet Winford Smith, Jr. and Althea "Annette" Barrett Smith, daughter, Sharyn Jones, and brother, Randy French.

John is survived by his wife, Wanda Williams Smith of Teoc; daughter, Melissa Metz and husband Joey of Teoc; son, B.J. Jones and wife Tina of Carrollton; sister, Judy McGinnis and husband Lee of Greenwood; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Holly, Rusty Holly, Zach Metz, Dakota Metz, Michael French, and Kenny Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Carver, Kenny Carver, Adam Jennings, Freddie Carver, Mark "Tank" Jennings, Jerry Carver, and Jimmy Mullins.
