James Travis Whittington, 81, of Sidon, MS, died Friday, September 24, 2021 at his residence. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McCaleb Family Cemetery in McCarley, MS, with visitation 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. Rev. Glen Waller will officiate the services.

Mr. Whittington was born January 8, 1940 in Brookhaven, MS, to Claude Lester Whittington and Bennie Mae Coker Whittington. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He worked for many years in retail at K Mart and loved spending time with his pets. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Whittington, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Melissa Medders Whittington of Sidon, MS; two sisters, Glenda Haynes and husband Paul of Alabama, and Lona Hankins and husband George of Alabama; brother in-law, Michael Haynes and wife Julie of Springfield, MO; sister in law, Angela McCurdy of Springfield, MO; and his nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bennie McCaleb, Bill Rutherford, Lloyd Dunn, Carl Haynes, Allen Flemons, and Richard Blackwell.

Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
