Mr. James Hartford Nester, Sr. died Saturday, February 24, 2024 at his residence in Carrollton, MS. Services will be held Tuesday 2:00 p.m. at Williams and Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home Tuesday. Burial will be in New Jerusalem Cemetery in Carroll County. Rev. Eddie Carpenter will officiate.

He was born on April 1, 1946 in Grenada, MS, to the late Robert James Nester and Johnnie Loutie Slawson Nester. He was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was in the insurance business. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Denton Nester; brother, Larry Wayne Nester, Sr.; and sister, Evelyn Ruth Hollis.

He is survived by his daughter, Mikki Chester, of Greenwood, MS; son, Jim (Melissa) Nester, of Carrollton, MS; brother, Ray Nester, of Carrollton (Norma), MS; two sisters, Patricia Everett, of Vaiden, MS, and Linda Jackson (Dale), of Carrollton, MS; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be C.J. Montgomery, Tripp Nester, Owen Garrett, Tyler Henson, Chase Nester, and Colby Denton.

Military rites will be conducted by Keesler-Hamrick-Gillespie American Legion Post 29.
