Services for James William Garrett will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 6:00pm at Williams and Lord Funeral Home.

Mr. Garrett, 69, died on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

He was born on February 14, 1948 in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late James Noah and Edna Pauline Garrett. He was a longtime resident of Greenwood, Mississippi, and has lived in the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi, for the last 14 years.

He was a United States Marine Veteran where he proudly served two tours in Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart recipient among many other distinguished awards.

He graduated from Delta State University with a degree in criminal justice. He worked for the MS Department of Corrections for 27 years, where he retired. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sharon Garrett Mcllwain.

He is survived by his daughter, Candy Epps (James McDaniel) of Greenwood, MS; two sons, Shane Garrett (Crystal) and Marc Garrett both of Greenwood, MS; four granddaughters, Madison Epps, Hannah Epps, Caylee Garrett and Jimee Brooke Garrett; brother, Donald Garrett (Jan), and a sister, Mary Nell Downs (John) both of Greenwood, MS.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2017 4:00pm till 6:00pm at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Military burial will be in the North Mississippi Veteran's Cemetery in Kilmichael, MS, at a later date. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post #29.
