Hubert Lee Strachan, 85, of North Carrollton, MS, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at North Carrollton Baptist Church with visitation from 12 p.m. until service time at the church. Rev. Joseph Sansing, Rev. Keith Ramage, and his longtime friend Charles Holman, will officiate the services. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.
Hubert was born March 24, 1934, in Carroll County, MS, to Claude Strachan and Lois McCluskey Strachan. He was a 1952 graduate of J.Z. George High School in North Carrollton. He was a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church. Hubert served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1964. He was stationed in Germany during his service in the Army, and was discharged with the rank of corporal (SP4).
Hubert was dedicated to serving others throughout his life, and he worked as a lineman for Delta Electric Power Association for almost 40 years until his retirement in 1998. From 1981 through 1988, he taught Basic Lineman Training School for the Electric Power Associations of Mississippi Job Training and Safety Department in Meridian, MS. In his spare time, he also was a property caretaker in Carroll County. Hubert loved to fish, cook, and spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Strachan, and his parents.
Hubert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vallie Woods Strachan of North Carrollton, MS; son, Ken Strachan and wife Shelia of North Carrollton, MS; granddaughter, Kate Strachan Diamond of North Carrollton, MS; step-grandson, Randy Myers of Coila, MS; sister, Faye Strachan Walker and husband Billy of Greenwood, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Oliver, Sam Abraham, Mike Gooch, Alan Woods, Phil Johnson, and Bill Noland. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Abraham, John Johnson, John J. Fraiser, Jr., Charles Holman, Matthew Blackmon, James Ayers, Lee Jones, Mike Flynn, Dr. Fred McMillian, Dr. Keith Rushing, Dr. Mercer Lee, Dr. C.J. Sanders, Dave Sanders, and all the employees of Delta Electric Power Association.

Military honors will be conducted by Keesler-Hamrick-Gillespie American Legion Post 29.
