Evelyn Chandler Ray, age 93, of Ruleville, Mississippi, journeyed to her heavenly home on Friday, September 14, 2018, while being cared for at Gracemore Nursing and Rehab in Brunswick, Georgia.

Mrs. Ray was born on December 8, 1924, in Ruleville, Mississippi, to Issac Henry Chandler and Jewel Elizabeth Sweatt Chandler.  On August 16, 1947, she married Doyle "Bill" Ray of Drew, Mississippi.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle Ray; her only son, Terry Doyle Ray; her sisters, Irene Pratt, Marie Threet, Ollie Sue Willingham, and Kathryn Starnes; her brothers, Percy Ray Chandler, Sr.,and James Earl Chandler; her parents, Issac Henry and Jewel Sweatt Chandler; and a great granddaughter, Ciara Jo Ray.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Ray Carson (Larry) of Brunswick, Georgia, and Jo Beth Ray of Horn Lake, Mississippi; her sisters, Maudine Andrews and JoAnne Story, both of Ruleville; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their extended families.

Mrs. Ray attended Mississippi Delta Junior College in Moorhead, Mississippi.  She performed clerical work for several employers and was later employed as a bookkeeper for two accounting firms and

three different local farmers.  She was an active member of Ruleville Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking, games and crafts, and writing poetry.  She also had great fun camping,

attending family get-togethers, and traveling around with her wonderful friend, Mary Thompson.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at

Ruleville Baptist Church.  A celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the

Rev. Robert Haney officiating.  Music will be provided by Mrs. Merle Tolbert, Ms.

Beverly Terrell, and Mr. Newt Carver, vocalist.  Pallbearers will be Jason Ray, Joshua Ray, Jared Ray, Justin Ray, Jordan Ray, and C. K. Glassco, IV.  Burial will follow in Lehrton Cemetery.  Edo Miller and

Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia, and Williams and Lord Funeral Home of
