Services for Erma Lucille Simmons will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 2:30 PM at Itta Bena Cemetery in Itta Bena, MS.
Mrs. Simmons, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
She was born on November 1, 1928 in Calhoun County, MS, to the late James and Nettie Pilgrim Yates and was a resident of Mississippi for her entire life. She had a spark about her that would lift everyone around her. She was an excellent seamstress, gardener, and cook. She loved animals and was adored by her community. Mrs. Simmons truly was one of a kind. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Marvin Ruble "Buster" Simmons Jr., and multiple brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three sons, James Ray (Peggy) Denley of Kosciusko, MS, Ricky (Brenda) Simmons of Greenwood, MS, and Louis (Sharon) Simmons of Cruger, MS; one daughter, Kathleen Garrett of Greenwood, MS; one sister, Mary Pharis of Gulfport, MS; two brothers, Bill Yates of Columbia, MO, and Dave Yates of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, Chris Denley, Josh Denley, Daniel Denley, Candy Garrett Epps, Shane Garrett, Marc Garrett, Jon Micheal Simmons, and Keith Simmons; 10 great grand children; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 7, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Larry Shackleford will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Chris Denley, Josh Denley, Daniel Denley, Shane Garrett, Jon Micheal Simmons, and David Thompson. James McDaniel will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
