Obituary

Edna Joyce Scallion Beavers, age 71, went to be with her Heavenly Father on the morning of July 2, 2020, while being constantly surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 22, 1948 in Berclair, MS, to Shelby and Myrtie Scallion where she grew up with five other siblings. It was here that she learned the values of family and understood the unconditional love that family could bring. She then expanded her family when she married Larry Beavers on March 13, 1964, as their marriage was later blessed with three children: Delores, Thomas, and Wayne Beavers, who then later gave back to her five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Edna worked various clerical positions with Mims Oil Company for over 15 years and M&M Pawn for over 10 years, but this is not where you would have found her on the weekends. In her spare time, Edna's favorite activity was camping at Grenada Lake with her husband and family. She also loved to travel to festivals, conventions, and family reunions.

When she wasn't on the road, you might have possibly seen Edna in her garden, but the one place that she was sure to be found was in her own kitchen. Edna loved to can fruits and vegetables, and with her generosity, she always shared her cannings with anyone who needed them. Her specialty in the kitchen was cooking a full course dinner for her entire family during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She often had to make multiple pans of cornbread, various vegetables, and the family favorite, hungry man casserole, because her cooking was so sought after.

While her family would gather to have fellowship and bond over Edna's cooking, she would immediately get behind her camera so she could snap all the candid moments that memories could hold. Rarely being the one in pictures herself, Edna made sure to make photographic records of her family's life with each other. Through the good times and the bad, there is probably at least one picture on her camera's memory documenting every instance of her family's history and legacy.

After she cleaned her kitchen and washed all the dishes, Edna loved to relax in her recliner and watch crime dramas, especially Law & Order. She had seen almost every episode of various shows to the point that she could tell you the ending before the show even started. She also loved to watch old western shows and movies with her husband.

Of all these things, Edna's proudest accomplishments were those of her children and grandchildren. She loved to attend awards ceremonies, sporting events, graduations, and any other special moments in her loved ones' lives. It is her children and grandchildren in which she hoped to instill that continued tradition of family no matter where they are in life.

She was a member of Greenwood Church of God.
She is joined in Heaven with and preceded in death by her parents, Shelby Scallion and Myrtie Upchurch Scallion; her sisters, Diane Nance and Linda Jo Rawles; her brothers, James Scallion and Danny Scallion; and her great granddaughter, Paisley Tull.

She is thoroughly missed and survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Beavers of Itta Bena; her brother, Marshall Scallion (Laura) of Sacramento, CA; her children, Delores Beavers Tull (Tim) of Fulton, Thomas Beavers (Lisa) of Carrollton, and Wayne Beavers (Perryolyn) of Grenada; her grandchildren, Brent Tull (Megan), Kacy Beavers (Kacey), Cody Beavers, Jessica Tull Pounds (Clark), and Candace Beavers; and her great grandchildren, Cohan Tucker, Kamden Tull, Tinsley Beavers, and Cayne Cortez.

There will be a graveside service at Itta Bena Cemetery on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 11:00 AM with Rev. James McElroy officiating. Pallbearers include Brent Tull, Cody Beavers, Clark Pounds, Bernard Scallion, Jeffrey Mooneyham, Reece Bailey, John Triplett, and Jerry Hicks.

"And now these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13)
