E. R.
Moody
Nov 5, 1949 — Jul 7, 2025
Drew
E.R. Moody, 75, of Drew, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, with his devoted wife, Glenda, by his side—just as she always was. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Ruleville, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will be in Drew Cemetery. Bro. Joe Young will officiate.
Born on November 5, 1949, in Belmont, Mississippi, E.R. moved to Parchman at the age of 5 and was raised there. Though his mother, Berdean, passed away when he was just a young boy, his stepmother, Jewel, raised him as her own with unwavering love. In time, E.R. settled in Drew, where he spent the rest of his days.
In 1971, E.R. began his long career at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. Starting as a correctional officer, he worked his way through the ranks to sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and ultimately retired as warden in 2002. Even after retirement, he continued to work there part-time for a few more years and was very dedicated.
Outside of work, E.R. found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for hunting and fishing, and he spent countless hours handcrafting fishing jigs, reloading bullets, and "piddling" in his shed—always tinkering with a lawnmower, four-wheeler, or anything else he could find. He loved taking his rifles to the sandpit to sight them in, a tradition he proudly passed on to his grandson, Matthew.
He was a natural storyteller, always armed with a new joke or lesson. He'd call up friends, family members, and neighbors just to share a laugh or a new hunting tip. If you knew him, you knew that he could talk your ears off—and you probably loved every second of it. He was the best husband, dad, brother, uncle, Paw Paw and friend anyone could ask for, and his love for his family knew no bounds.
Later in life, E.R. faced health challenges, including a liver transplant. Though he couldn't get around like he used to, he found comfort in the simple things—sitting in his chair with his iPad, talking on the phone with some of his best friends and family, and keeping everyone around him smiling with his stories and wisdom.
E. R. was baptized as a boy and remained strong in his Baptist faith.
He will be missed beyond measure. But if he were here right now, he'd say, "Come here a minute, I gotta tell you something," or "Listen at me now." And we'd all stop what we were doing, knowing we were about to hear something funny, something smart—or something only he could say. We all love you so much.
E.R. was preceded in death by his mother, Berdean; his father, E. Rastus; his stepmother, Jewel; his sister, Yvonne; and his brother, Charles.
E.R. is survived by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Glenda Marinelli Moody of Drew; his daughters, Kristi Blount (Bryan) of Hernando, and Kimberly Rogers (Farrol Hood) of Drew; his grandchildren, Tori Butler (Chris) of Drew, Matthew Rogers (Becky) of Drew, Parker Blount of Hernando, Evan Blount of Hernando, and Aaron and Brooke Ragon of Enid; his great-grandsons, Westyn and Gavin Butler; and two great-granddaughters on the way, Ava and Millie.
He is also survived by his sister, Wynoka Tuttle of Batesville, and his brother, Ricky Moody (Embry) of Enid; along with his nephews, Chris, Ryan, and Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Rogers, Parker Blount, Evan Blount, Chris Butler, Chris Waldrup, and Ryan Waldrup.
