Services for Dorris "Red" Garrett will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 2:00 PM at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood, MS.
Red, age 92, was called home by the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Hospice Ministries in Jackson, MS, of heart failure.
He was born on June 22, 1924 in Kilmichael, MS, to the late Henry and Maud Vera Garrett and lived in West, MS. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood. Red worked for Bowman and Bowman for 28 years as a truck driver and as a salesman. He started Garrett and Sons Salvage in 1973. In 1974, Red became president of Garrett and Sons Inc. and remained president from 1974-2003. He was a long time member of the Moose Lodge in Greenwood, MS. Red spent most of his life as a business man and loved every aspect of business. He touched many lives as he loved to see people reach their full potential. Red helped his family and friends as often as he could. He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Red is preceded in death by both his parents, Henry E. Garrett and Maud Vera Garrett; his wife, Mary Stella Garrett; one son, Harold Lamar Garrett; one brother, Sgt. Harold E. Garrett, and two sisters, Juopel Parkerson and Barbara Parkerson.
He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Garrett and Mark E. Garrett, both of Madison, MS; two daughters, Sheila Allen of West, MS, and Pam McCaleb of Coffeeville, MS; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev Butch Kelly will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be John Peoples, Keith Peoples, Brandon Cadney, John Neal, Floyd Sewell and Marvin Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Larry Andrews and Justin Serrett.
