Obituary

Deborah Ann McLellan Wolfe , age 67, of McLoud, Oklahoma died in a house fire on February 4, 2023.

Deborah was born on September 21, 1955 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to O. C. "Jack" and Ann "Bootsie" Hartsell McLellan while her daddy was stationed there. The family moved to Greenwood shortly thereafter, where Deborah spent most of her life. Debbie spent her childhood taking dancing lessons and piano lessons. When she was in high school, she was a majorette in the Greenwood High School marching band. She spent much of her time at Henderson Grocery Store which belonged to her grandparents A. E. "Slim" and Anita Henderson, whom she loved and adored. She graduated early from high school in 1972, and married Phil Wolfe nearly as soon as the ink was dry on her diploma. Though they divorced, they were married for over 40 years and had two children, Kimberly Ann Wolfe Smith and Phillip Eric Wolfe.

Debbie found her career niche at the Mississippi Department of Corrections Field Office in Greenwood. She worked her way up from a Clerk Typist to a State Parole Officer. Tall, blonde, and maybe 120 pounds soaking wet, she was fierce and unintimidated by even the biggest and meanest men that she took into custody. One such time, she told one of her male work partners, who was there to back her up, to hold her purse while she cuffed someone that outweighed her by more than 150 pounds. She remained at MDOC for 16 years.

Debbie was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church. She loved her family, friends, and dogs. She enjoyed scuba diving, playing piano, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Eric Wolfe, her daddy O. C. "Jack" McLellan, her paternal grandparents, A. E. "Slim" and Anita Henderson, and her maternal grandmother, Sally Ann Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Wolfe Smith (Brandon) of Vaiden; her mother, Ann Hartsell McLellan of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Justin Smith (Emily), Christian Smith, and Hunter Smith, all of Vaiden, and Phillip Smith (Devin Che') of Yazoo City; and one great-grandson, Tommy Smith of Yazoo City. Siblings: Grace Minyard of Orlando, Mike McLellan (Marla) and Larry McLellan both of Greenwood, Robbie McLellan of McCarley, Jan Bland (Steve) of Richland, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Vaiden Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bro. David Westmoreland will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vaiden Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 Mulberry Street, Vaiden, MS 39176.
