Services for Cokie Viner will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 12:00 PM at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.
Mr. Viner, age 82, died on Monday, May 15, 2017 at The Veterans' Nursing Home in Kosciusko, MS, of heart failure. He was born on January 5, 1935 in Montgomery County, MS, to the late Sherrud and Estelle Davis Viner. He grew up in Moorhead, MS, where he attended high school. He excelled at sports including baseball, football, basketball, track and field. Cokie attended Sunflower Junior College for a brief time before he went to work for the MS State of Engineers. He would remain with them for over 40 years. He also served his country as a member of the National Guard. Cokie is preceded in death by his parents, and a son, John Paul Viner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Viner of Grenada, MS; son, Shane (Shonna) Viner of Grenada, MS; sister, Katheryn Warren of Pulaski, MS; grandsons, Reid Viner of Grenada, MS, and Luke Viner of Grenada, MS; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 17, 2017 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Bro. Dan Baggett will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Chris Alford, Lacy McAdams, Henry Manuel, Reid Viner, Jimmy Griffin, and Shane Viner. Honorary Pallbearer will be Luke Viner. Burial will be in Moorhead Cemetery in Moorhead, MS.
