Charles Matthew "Matt" Abel Downs , 24, of Grenada, MS, died Friday, February 3, 2023. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with visitation 1:30 p.m. until service time. Rev. Benny Watson, Rev. Leon Holly, and Rev. Duane Jenson will be officiating the services, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

He was born July 28, 1998, in Greenwood, MS, to Charley and Sandy Downs. He was raised in Carroll County and graduated from North New Summit High School in 2017. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and lived in Grenada the past year. He and his wife were expecting a new baby boy in June. They were married in 2019. He worked at Modine Industries the past three years. His hobby was playing video games with his nieces and nephews, and he enjoyed reading and traveling with his family. He was a strong believer in Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Wixon Downs of Grenada, MS; son, James Earl Downs of Grenada, MS; parents, Charley and Sandy Downs of Carrollton, MS; two sisters, Suzanne Shaw and husband Jamey of Carrollton, MS, and Elizabeth Houston and husband Josh of Carrollton, MS. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Wiliamson, Jamey Shaw, Christopher Moss, Anthony Lopez, Aaron Thomas Wixon, and Joshua Houston. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Snow, Jacob Moss, Chris Downs, and Will Downs.
