Royland Lee "Bud" Messer

July 10, 1931 - September 20, 2017

Services for Bud Messer will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 2:00 PM in Itta Bena Cemetery.

Mr. Messer, age 86, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. He was born on July 10, 1931 in Monroe County, MS, to the late Richard and Nettie West Messer and lived in the Greenwood area. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member and deacon of Morgan City Baptist Church. His passion was farming. He had many friends and will be missed dearly by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonnie Messer, and two sisters, Martha Sullivan and Patsy Lindsey.

He is survived by his daughter, Betty (James) Tanksley of Greenwood, MS; grandson, Jamie (Peggy Jo) Tanksley of Greenwood, MS; granddaughter,  Beth Tanksley of Greenwood, MS; and great grandchildren, Maggie Jo Tanksley of Greenwood, MS, and  Alex Tanksley of Greenwood, MS.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. Rev. Perry Irvin will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be George Lindsey, Donald Ussery, Dickie Collins, Red Holeman, Kirk Jolly, and Gary Makamson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Will Jolly and Donnie Ussery.

Williams and Lord Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Leflore County Humane Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Hines and the fourth floor at Greenwood Leflore Hospital and a very special thank you to Bridget Carpenter and Tavita Hunt.
