Obituary

Mrs. Annie Mae Wilson, 92, passed away June 24, 2019, at her new residence, Golden Age Nursing Home, in Greenwood, MS. She moved to Golden Age to become a part of their outstanding Rehabilitation Program, which she immediately loved, and developed close friendships with all of the therapists. Mrs. Wilson made friends with all of the staff and had begun to develop a fondness for her new residence. The highlight was gathering with her Carrollton friends who were also residents.

Mrs. Wilson and her late husband James Frank Wilson moved from Alexandria, Louisiana, in 1947 to make their home at Oakhurst Plantation in Carrollton. Mrs. Wilson, a child bride, met her husband while he was associated with Billups Western Petroleum Company in Louisiana. They continued their relationship with the Billups family, and Mrs. Wilson is the last of that successful legacy.

The Wilsons had two children, daughter Anne Irene Wilson Strickland (husband Wesley Rondle) and son James Rowell Wilson (wife Susan Marshall).

Mrs. Wilson is survived by four grandchildren: Cameron Lamar Strickland Rhea (Jason Delane) of Holly Springs, Mississippi; April Wilson Savell (Thomas Clay) of Brandon, Mississippi; Erin Wilson Ming (Kevin Wayne) of Starkville, Mississippi; Cari Jane Wilson Murray (Justin Paul) of Covington, Louisiana. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Marlee Wilson Rhea and Jason Case Rhea; Thomas Wilson Savell, James Hillen Savell, Gunner Ray Gambill (Brittany Dade Osborne), Justin Wilson Ming, Cecelia James Murray, Wilson Paul Murray, and Rose Alice Murray (deceased).

Mrs. Wilson is also survived by two nieces, Mrs. David Butler of Bentley, Louisiana, and Mrs. Willard White of Starks, Louisiana.

Mrs. Wilson moved into town from Oakhurst Plantation at the age of 71 and was immediately appointed to the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Carrollton. Sixteen months later, she was elected Mayor of the Town of Carrollton and served in that capacity until her retirement in 2013. Her love for Carrollton was exemplified through her dedication during her years of service.

In 2002, Mrs. Wilson was honored as one of Mississippi's six Ageless Heroes, which was sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.

Mrs. Wilson was an active member of the North Carrollton United Methodist Church where over the years she served in many leadership capacities. A true Southern Servant, Mrs. Wilson delighted in remembering those who were having special occasions with her cheese straws or homemade rolls. Mrs. Wilson, with her famous cheese straws, was showcased in the December 15, 2010, issue of the Greenwood Commonwealth.

Mrs. Wilson was an accomplished seamstress and once enjoyed helping her son with his cattle business. She truly loved her opportunity to serve others and did so to the fullest.

Mrs. Wilson's graveside service will be Thursday, June 27, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, Mississippi. Williams and Lord Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The Reverend Tom Sorrell of Brandon, Mississippi, and the Reverend Ed Saunders will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Anderson, Lloyd (Honey) Ashmore, Whit Cooper, Will Cooper, Donnie Corley, Buzz Handwerker, Charles Terry Johnston, Snooky Lee, Wilton Neal, Stanley (Sugar) Mullen, Pate Shackelford, Bernard Taylor, and Russell Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Evergreen Cemetery Association of which Mrs. Wilson served as a board member, P. O.
