LAMAR, OK - Mike Upchurch, age 58, died on Wednesday July 25, 2012 at his residence.
He was born in Greenwood November 12, 1953 to the Late: Alvin and Manie Durrett Upchurch. He was a graduate of Pillow Academy in Mississippi and he had a bachelor’s degree. For many years he worked as a Department of Defense military contractor in the Balkans, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan as a construction manager. He built many of the bases that housed our service members overseas. Mike loved to hunt and fish, and many of his best memories involved hunting stories with his family and friends. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. For many years you could see Mike at rodeos throwing down a steer or team roping. He was a member of Barnard Methodist Church in Holdenville OK. and he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Upchurch Conway.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday 07/28/2012 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home with Reverend Ren Smith officiating. Burial will be in Itta Bena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Smith, Craig Toth, Jeffery Mooneyham, John Wayne Baker, Larry Beavers and Keith Holmes.
He is survived by his Wife of 5 years, Linda Upchurch of Lamar, OK., Daughter, Dawne Holmes of Greenwood, Son, Patrick Upchurch of Colorado Springs, CO., Daughter, Micah Upchurch Landers of DeKalb, TX., Step Son, Jesse Robinson of Antlers, OK., Brother, Billy Upchurch of Virginia, 3 Grandchildren, Cody Holmes of Greenwood, Emily Holmes of Greenwood, and Raylee Landers of DeKalb, TX., and m any cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
